Hamilton Relay, a leading Telecommunications Relay and Captioned Telephone services provider, announced today that it is expanding its workforce at its Frostburg, Maryland center.
Hamilton Relay’s Maryland center was established in 2007 and is one of Hamilton’s five centers that process relay calls for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking. The company expanded its Frostburg center in 2012 as captioning assistant positions were added to begin processing captioned telephone calls. Continued growth of Hamilton’s captioned telephone services on a nationwide basis is now driving the need to once again expand in this location.
“This expansion is a testament to Hamilton’s commitment to provide customers with the latest, most technologically advanced solutions and personalized customer care,” said Dixie Ziegler, vice president of Hamilton Relay.
Brenda Kelly-Frey, director of Telecommunications Access of Maryland, added that, “The continued growth of Hamilton’s center in Frostburg is an indicator of the expanding need for high-quality relay and captioned telephone services. The State of Maryland appreciates the services and support that Hamilton provides to individuals who rely on Maryland Relay to communicate with friends, family and businesses each and every day.”
The company looks to immediately fill over 20 new captioning assistant positions in the Frostburg facility. Additionally, Hamilton has openings for relay operator positions to process telecommunications relay calls in English, and is looking to hire bilingual English-Spanish speaking individuals to process Spanish relay calls as well.
Michael W. McKay, President of the Board of Commissioners of Allegany County, stated, “Hamilton Relay is an extraordinary provider of high-quality, life-enhancing services and is enjoying continued success nationwide. The Frostburg Center contributes to Hamilton’s growth. This certainly is good economic news for Allegany County – 20 new jobs are coming here.”
McKay added, “My fellow commissioners, Creade V. Brodie, Jr. and William R. Valentine, and I have confidence in the quality and commitment of Allegany County’s workforce. Hamilton’s second expansion here reflects the positive past performance of employees at the Frostburg Center. We truly appreciate and congratulate Hamilton Relay.”

About Captioned Telephone Relay Service
Captioned Telephone Relay Service (CTRS) is designed for individuals who have difficulty hearing on the telephone. Captioned Telephone (CapTel®) technology, developed by Ultratec, Inc. of Madison, Wisconsin, allows individuals to view word-for-word captions of what’s being said to them on a display screen of a CapTel phone – similar to captions on television.
Using a CapTel phone, users can “see what they say” and not miss a word of their telephone conversations. Behind the scenes, a specially trained Captioning Assistant re-voices everything said by the standard phone user into state-of-the-art voice recognition software. The speech is then converted almost simultaneously into text that appears on the CapTel phone. Captions are available in English or Spanish. More information is available at www.hamiltoncaptel.com.
