Carrie Nicholsen of Columbia, Maryland has been selected as the Hamilton Relay 2017 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award recipient for the state of Maryland. Carrie has dedicated herself to improving the lives of individuals with hearing loss by being a resource and providing encouragement.
Carrie is currently serving as the president of the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) and is in a leadership role with the Maryland Chapter of Alexander Graham Bell Association of the Deaf (AG Bell). Since becoming the president of HLAA Greater Baltimore, she has significantly improved the group’s website, launched and updates the Facebook page, and created and distributes a chapter newsletter regularly.
Carrie also is a mentor for the Bionic Ear Association and assists individuals who already have or are considering cochlear implants with the information needed to optimize the benefits of the implant. Additionally, she volunteers with Fidos For Freedom by staffing exhibits and educating visitors on the availability and benefits of service and therapy dogs for people with hearing loss.
Carrie’s peers describe her as an inspiration with an “open attitude and willing spirit.” We commend for her advocacy and are proud to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2017 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the state of Maryland.
