Hamilton Relay is proud to name Walker Estes as the recipient of our 2022 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Louisiana. Walker is a member, board member, or officer, in the Baton Rouge Association of the Deaf, the Greater New Orleans Association of the Deaf, the Louisiana Association of the Deaf, the National Association of the Deaf, and the Louisiana School for the Deaf foundation. In his free time, Walker spends his own time and money helping people who are often overlooked. He helps deaf/blind individuals by driving them around, helping them to shop and pay their bills, and even buying food for them if they do not have enough at home. He pays for interpreters for funerals and at churches out of his own pocket to give everyone a chance at access. He volunteers as a chaplain for the Deaf who are in prison.
The Deaf Community Leader Award was presented to Walker Estes on Saturday, November 12 at a meeting of the Baton Rouge Association of the Deaf.
