Ron Vickery selected for Hamilton Relay 2011 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the State of Georgia.

May, 22 2011

Ron Vickery is dedicated to providing insight, education and resources to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in the State of Georgia. His participation in several organizations and agencies has allowed him to extend his knowledge of assistive technology to others with hearing loss.

Ron has been an integral part of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) for several years and is involved in spreading awareness of hearing loss state and nation-wide. The Georgia HLAA chapter, known as Atlanta Hears, has hosted two day conferences to educate individuals on ways to manage their hearing loss and Ron was always present and available to help troubleshoot any unforeseen issues, particularly related to assistive technology. He served as president of the previously established Northwest Georgia Chapter of HLAA and is currently treasurer of the HLAA State Office and National Professional Advisor on Hearing Assistive Technology. In 2010 he was honored with the HLAA Service Award, presented at the 2010 HLAA Convention.

Ron's dedication to individuals with hearing loss is commendable. He gladly accepts opportunities to give presentations where he shares his knowledge about available devices that assist in helping one hear better, such as looping technology; a system which generates a magnetic field that can be picked up by a hearing aid. He volunteers his time to the Georgia Peach Cochlear Implant Association, Inc. (GPCIA), and attends their retreats to support and bring helpful information to the attendees.

Ron also serves on the board of the Georgia Council for the Hearing Impaired, Inc. (GACHI) and is on the Georgia Relay and Georgia Telecommunication Equipment Distribution Program (TEDP) Advisory Committees. Ron was instrumental in getting the bill through the General Assembly to establish the TEDP in Georgia. He is a member of Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc (TDI) and serves on a Consumer Electronics Association (CES) working group.

Georgia is fortunate to have such an individual and we are pleased to congratulate and honor Ron for his many efforts in accommodating individuals with hearing loss. He is truly an ideal recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2011 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award.
