Michael Lieberman of Las Cruces, New Mexico has been selected as the Hamilton Relay 2016 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award recipient for the state of New Mexico. Michael is an active leader and advocate in the Las Cruces hard of hearing community.
Michael is currently the vice president of the Las Cruces chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). He leads the steering committee in discussions and planning for the chapter’s monthly meetings. Michael also took the lead in looping the Grace Bible Church, which is where the Las Cruces HLAA chapter has its meetings.
In addition to his involvement with HLAA Las Cruces, Michael performs community outreach. He engages with members of the community and professionals to discuss hearing loss, hearing aids, assistive devices and other methods for improving the lives of individuals who hearing loss.
Making sure facilities are looped and accessible is also important to Michael. He worked diligently with the New Mexico Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NMCDHH), the Albuquerque HLAA Chapter and the Las Cruces community to plan and implement multiple presentation sessions with the National HLAA Loop Advocate, Dr. Juliette Sterkens.
