Marvin D. Taylor selected for Hamilton Relay 2014 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the State of New Mexico

May, 17 2014

Marvin D. Taylor of Albuquerque, New Mexico has worked with tireless perseverance to help others help themselves. His peers describe him as being warm-hearted, determined and always willing to volunteer his help to others. Marvin suffered a stroke 26 years ago, causing vision, speaking and hearing difficulties. Despite the challenges his stroke presented, Marvin has not let those challenges get in the way of his “get it done” attitude.

Marvin is an active member of the Albuquerque Stroke Club (ASC) where he served as President from 1995 to 1997, and again, from 1998 to 2000. In 1991, he began using his own vehicle, at his own expense, to transport stroke survivors to ASC meetings, events and activities. He also began providing transportation for members to get to doctor appointments, go shopping and run errands. Marvin has served as the Facilitator for the Thursday Support Group weekly meeting since 1995, and has held positions on the club’s Board of Directors.

For the past 20 years, Marvin has visited hospitals and rehabilitation facilities every month to meet and educate new stroke survivors. He has also taken on the task of Editor of the ASC monthly newsletter, which is a critical source of information and communication for stroke survivors, their families and caregivers. He works every year on the club’s Annual Raffle by cultivating and maintaining long-term relationships with many different businesses in the community.

Hamilton Relay is pleased to present Marvin D. Taylor with its 2014 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the state of New Mexico. Marvin is a true inspiration to stroke survivors, their families and caregivers through his volunteerism and day-to-day thoughtfulness and support.
