Jane Popkin of Norfolk, Virginia has been selected as the recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2021 Better Hearing and Speech Month Award for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Jane is highly respected member of her community and provides a very important level of commitment in the Tidewater area of Virginia.
As the current vice president of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Virginia Beach Chapter, she coordinates speakers for monthly events, plans social events and club meetings along with increasing the organization’s footprint in the community. During the last year, she managed to organize a buddy check system for members in need of assistance.
Jane volunteers her time with the Norfolk Recreation Center, where she facilitates a free hearing clinic while distributing educational literature to those who express interest in learning about hearing loss.
She is also an active member of Access Virginia, which is a theater-based organization for individuals who are deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing. She commits her free time to participating in drama workshops and has been a cast member in plays which educate the public on awareness of hearing loss in daily life.
We commend Jane Popkin for her advocacy and leadership. We are proud to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2021 Better Hearing and Speech Month Award for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
