In honor of Better Hearing and Speech month, Hamilton Relay is pleased to recognize Lorraine Cantera as the 2010 Hard of Hearing leader for the State of Massachusetts.

October, 13 2010

Lorraine Cantera is an extraordinary individual who is devoted to helping others. She has not let her hearing loss get in the way of enjoying life. Lorraine is determined to get the most of what life has to offer and encourages others to do the same.

Until her recent retirement, and in addition to taking care of a home and family, Lorraine worked full-time as a bookkeeper/accountant for a successful construction firm. She is actively involved in the Malden Senior Citizens Group where she freely offers her time to organize and run group day trips and tours. Lorraine is also an active member of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) North of Boston Chapter and has served as their Treasurer for several years. Her support of the chapter is evident through her involvement in chapter activities as well as generously volunteering refreshments and opening her home for committee and board meetings.

Lorraine is instrumental in helping others learn how to live with hearing loss. A great example of her assistance involves a woman that she met while taking a lip reading course who had recently experienced a significant drop in her hearing. Lorraine did not hesitate to take this individual under her wing to share her experience and resources, including introducing her to HLAA.

Lorraine has been described as a giving, caring person who is a wonderful wife, mother and community leader. We are pleased to recognize Lorraine for her efforts in helping individuals with hearing loss and for her outstanding leadership in the state of Massachusetts.

This leadership recognition has been brought to you by Hamilton Relay.
