Hamilton CapTel Awarded Exclusive Captioned Telephone Service Contract in State of California

Agreement ensures a reliable and personal call experience for Californians with hearing loss

Hamilton Telephone Company d/b/a Hamilton Telecommunications today announced that through a competitive bidding process, Hamilton CapTel has been selected as the exclusive provider of California Captioned Telephone Service and will begin providing the service June 2. The introduction of Hamilton CapTel to California will enhance and improve the Captioned Telephone (CapTel) experience for people who are hard of hearing in California – providing a number of new calling features with telephone captions in both English and Spanish.

Hamilton CapTel is a captioned telephone service that allows people who are hard of hearing to both listen and read what the other party says during a conversation. The Captioned Telephone (CapTel) Service which is free to eligible users, uses a standard phone line and a special captioned telephone device with a bright screen for easy viewing. New features being introduced by Hamilton CapTel in California include individual calling preferences.

In addition to California Captioned Telephone Service, Hamilton CapTel offers a complete family of solutions that include both Web CapTel and Mobile CapTel that may be accessed by users across the country.

CapTel captioning services are free to eligible residents of California and the service is funded by the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program (www.DDTP.org), a program of the California Public Utilities Commission.
