Dr. Jill Young, Au. D of Fairfax, Virginia has been selected as the recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2019 Deaf Community Leader Award for the State of Virginia. Her peers say that Dr. Young demonstrates the importance of being an active leader Virginia.
Dr. Young performs pediatric audiology at the Inova Fairfax Hospital located in Fairfax. Since 2011, she has provided dedicated service for children who have hearing loss.
She has taken an active role in advocating for children who develop hearing difficulty, as well as assisting with the Virginia Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Advisory Committee. The Committee assists and supports the Virginia Department of Health. EHDI also maintains the monitoring auditory screening test, hearing assessments and therapeutic interventions for infants.
Dr. Young maintains an active role in the Northern Virginia Learning Community. As the co-leader, she helps the organization connect parents and professionals together to identify the needs and necessary resources for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
As of January 2018, Dr. Young continues to volunteer her time and holds a membership for the Virginia Hands & Voices organization. She also helped increased participation for the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Walk4Hearing held in Washington D.C.
