David Jessop selected for Hamilton Relay 2012 Deaf Community Leader Award for the State of Maryland

September, 25 2012

Wielding a selfless personality, David is a tenacious advocate for individuals who are deaf-blind in Maryland. When David pushes for issues he leaves positive change in his wake. Often described as both an inspiration and role model to those around him, David exemplifies the full capability and heights to which a person can aspire and attain.

After graduating from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in 1976, David worked at Form Service East for many years. He is a key leader of the Baltimore Association of the Deaf-Blind (BADB) where he served as president from 2007 – 2011. David enjoys volunteering at his church in any capacity from decorating the facility to cleaning up after events.

David continues his long-time involvement with the Deaf Shalom Zone which empowers deaf and Deaf-Blind individuals through advocacy, case management, education and referrals. Every year he volunteers his time to run activities and games for a Deaf-Blind Camp held in West River, Maryland. Through this camp, individuals have the opportunity to gather for one week and experience an array of fun and challenging activities. David's efforts at the camp continue to have a great benefit to all who attend.

David's peers describe him as a kind and gentle individual. We commend David for his many talents and his dedication to enhancing the lives of individuals who are Deaf-Blind.
