Ann Cooper selected for Hamilton Relay 2014 Deaf Community Leader Award for the State of Kansas

Ann Cooper has been selected as the recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2014 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Kansas. She is an exemplary leader who is active in supporting and advocating for the rights and interests of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Ann is currently serving her fourth term as president of the Kansas Association of the Deaf (KAD). Her prior service within KAD includes serving terms as interim vice president and secretary. Among her many contributions, Ann was involved in the implementation of the Kansas-Community Action Plan (K-CAP). Ann is also involved in the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and is a five-time NAD conference delegate for the state of Kansas. She has served on the NAD Accountability Task Force committee for the past two years, and was registration chairperson for the 2004 NAD conference which was held in Kansas City.

Involvement in serving various athletic organizations for individuals who are deaf has also been Ann’s passion. She served as secretary, treasurer and vice president for the Midwest Athletic Association of the Deaf (MAAD) during the time period ranging from 1992 through 2002. Ann was chairperson for the MAAD Softball Tournament in 1992. She also served as secretary of the Tournament Committee and Tournament Player’s registration for the American Athletic Association of the Deaf (AAAD), now known as USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF).

Ann truly cares about the community and is passionate about what she does. She is a true leader who works together with others; always encouraging people to get involved. We commend Ann for her dedication and advocacy and are proud to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2014 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Kansas.
