Tanya Brown has been selected as the recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2014 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Louisiana. Tanya serves as an excellent role model for students and young adults who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Tanya is an alumnus and frequent volunteer for the Louisiana School for the Deaf (LSD). She is a presenter at LSD’s College and Career Day where she speaks with students not only about her job and working, but also about the independence and responsibility they may encounter when entering the work environment. She is also a guest judge for the Mr. and Miss LSD Pageant and a volunteer for Homecoming activities.
Tanya is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge and attended Gallaudet University. She has been with the Louisiana Teacher’s Retirement System for 16 years and is currently an Administrative Supervisor II.
Tanya is an active member of both the Louisiana Association of the Deaf (LAD) and New Orleans Black Deaf Advocates. She is also the Southwestern Regional Representative for National Black Deaf Advocates. In addition, Tanya serves on the pageant circuit in Louisiana as the host of Miss Deaf Louisiana and the director for Miss Black Deaf Louisiana.
Tanya serves her community with passion and heart. She is an excellent motivator and demonstrates great leadership in everything she does. We commend Tanya for her commitment and are proud to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2014 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Louisiana.
