James Litvack selected for Hamilton Relay 2011 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the State of Rhode Island.

May, 19 2011

James Litvack has been involved in providing valuable resources and technology training to individuals with hearing loss throughout the State of Rhode Island. His involvement in such organizations such as PARI Independent Living Center, Hearing Loss Association of America – Rhode Island (HLA-RI), Adaptive Telephone Equipment Loan Program (ATEL), and the Rhode Island Association of the Deaf (RIAD) has supported individuals in embracing their hearing loss and finding ways to maintain their independence.

James served as President, Treasurer and Board member of HLA-RI and currently serves as Secretary and on the convention and fundraising committees of RIAD. He continues to sit on the Advisory Committee for ATEL and is part of the Consumer Education Training Task Force within the RI Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. He is the Community Activities Coordinator at PARI and is the current editor of The Beacon newsletter that is distributed by RIAD. He maintains the "Gift of Hearing Collaborative," a program that provides low cost hearing aids to people with limited income, and conducts a variety of workshops on basic information about hearing loss and assistive technology.

In addition to the above, James is committed to supporting and educating individuals who are hard of hearing, whether it is a part of his job or as a volunteer. James' peers have described him as a person who sees positive attributes in everyone. His ability to provide objective feedback empowers those around him to make their own decisions in determining the accommodations to best fit their needs.

We commend James for his achievements and are pleased to honor him as the recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2011 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the State of Rhode Island.
