Remote Conference Captioning (RCC), with real time captioning, enables individuals who have difficulty hearing what’s said during conference calls to have a clear understanding of what’s said and participate in conference calls in a more effective manner.

RCC services use Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) service delivered over the Internet.

Here’s how RCC works:

  • The captionist (writer) accesses the audio either through a conference call bridge or other method.
  • The writer then listens and produces realtime streaming text that is sent over the Internet.
  • The text is viewed by the RCC user on a computer or mobile device with an Internet connection by clicking on a link that is provided.
  • The text shows up just seconds after someone has spoken.
  • At any time, the RCC user can scroll up to review text.
  • By clicking “Transcript”, the RCC user opens another browser page containing the raw, unedited transcript which may be copied or printed.

The following is required in order to use Remote Conference Captioning:

  • Accessibility to a conference bridge, which allows the writer to listen to the audio portion of the call.
  • A computer, tablet or smartphone with access to the Internet. There is no software to download. A link will be provided to view captions.

You may request RCC services by completing the RCC Scheduling Request Form below. After submitting the form, you can expect an e-mail confirmation within 24 hours.

RCC services are guaranteed if scheduled 24 hours in advance. Service may be available upon shorter notice, however is not guaranteed.

A transcript of the call can be requested in raw or finished form. The raw transcript is available for download immediately following the call. A finished transcript with corrections and proper formatting is available three to five days following the call. Do you wish to receive a finished transcript?
