Lisette Belanger of Portland, Maine was chosen as the recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2018 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Maine. Lisette has been a steadfast volunteer for Disability Rights Maine (DRM) since 2015, making herself available 10-15 hours a week for office work and outreach events.
Lisette is involved with the Portland area Deaf Senior Citizens’ advocacy group. Her experiential knowledge of the challenges faced by individuals with multiple disabilities and her successful navigation of those challenges, combined with her can-do attitude make her a very valuable asset both to the Deaf community and to Disability Rights Maine.
Lisette’s worked as a rehabilitation counselor for individuals who are deaf for several years. Although she is now retired, she continues to advocate for the needs of individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.
We commend Lisette for her volunteerism and advocacy and are proud to present her with the 2018 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Maine.
This leadership recognition has been brought to you by Hamilton Relay.
