Carlene Ballard, of Bardstown, Kentucky, has been selected as the recipient of the Hamilton Relay 2019 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the state of Kentucky.
Former president of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Bardstown chapter, Carlene not only boasts being one of the group’s founding members but is the current secretary as well. Also serving dutifully as an active member of the HLAA Kentuckiana chapter in Louisville since 2013, her leadership and advocacy efforts have increased awareness in the state about issues related to or directly impacting its citizens who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Additionally, Carlene has been recognized for garnering ongoing support from a number of Bluegrass businesses for the chapter’s annual ‘Walk4Hearing’ – a community-based fundraising program sponsored by the national HLAA that reaches out to people with hearing loss, their families, friends and hearing healthcare professionals to increase public consciousness about hearing health and communication access.
Beyond fostering business partnerships across Kentucky, her volunteerism and outreach efforts – which include work with her local church, animal shelters and senior living facilities – are just a few of many highlighted by her peers that make her more than worthy of this honor.
We commend Carlene for her leadership and are proud to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2019 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the state of Kentucky.
