Malinda Jorgensen Leeds selected for Hamilton Relay 2016 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the State of Iowa

Malinda Jorgensen Leeds has been selected as the Hamilton Relay 2016 Better Hearing Speech Month Recognition Award recipient for the state of Iowa. She is a dedicated advocate for the hard of hearing community and has been described by her peers as someone who is always eager to learn new things and willing to help others.

Malinda is involved in many organizations throughout the state and takes great pride in the responsibilities she holds within each group. She is an active member of the Central Iowa chapter of the Hearing Loss Association (HLA-CI). She manages the organization’s Facebook page and writes articles for HLA-CI newsletter.

In addition, Malinda volunteers with Hands and Voices and serves as a mentor to children who are deaf or hard of hearing. She has also worked with children who have special needs as a volunteer for the Special Olympics and Best Buddies.

Through her coursework at Drake University and a blog she started, Malinda has been able to share her experiences as an individual with hearing loss.

Malinda is making an impact on the lives of so many in her community and in the state of Iowa.
