Dylan Heuer of Clive, Iowa has been selected as the Hamilton Relay 2022 Deaf Community Leader Award recipient for the state of Iowa. Dylan brings enthusiasm and is a role model to children across the state through his work with the Iowa Baseball Camp for the Deaf.
The Iowa Baseball Camp for the Deaf is a non-profit organization committed to providing baseball experiences for children who are deaf or hard of hearing in the state of Iowa. Dylan’s volunteerism includes managing the camp annually, which includes working with the kids at the camp as well as training and working with approximately 25 interpreters and volunteers who help with the camp each year. He also works with the Iowa Cubs Baseball team to give the campers an opportunity to use the field and connect with players at one of their minor league games.
His positivity and can-do spirit are evident through his work and volunteerism, according to his colleagues and peers.
He continues to seek opportunities to socialize and meet new people in the Deaf community in Iowa. In 2022, he became a Board Member for the Iowa Board of Sign Language Interpreters and Transliterators.
We commend Dylan for his leadership and are proud to present him the Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Iowa.
