Jennifer Montoya and David Kelsey selected for Hamilton Relay 2015 Deaf Community Leader Award for the State of Nevada

Jennifer Montoya and David Kelsey are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals who are deaf. Both Jennifer and David have demonstrated a commitment to bettering their community through their work with children and young adults in Nevada’s Deaf community.

Jennifer Montoya is passionate about improving the lives of children who are deaf. She is currently the chairperson of Camp SignShine and is instrumental in planning, fundraising and performing outreach for the camp. Actively involved in Nevada Hands & Voices, Jennifer presents at their Legislative Luncheon on how to advocate for the Deaf community by working with legislators, and actively shares her personal experiences as an individual who is deaf.

Jennifer served as a board member of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy Resource Center (DHHARC) and was appointed 2nd Vice President in 2014, serving until August 2015. Jennifer is inspiring others through her leadership and commitment to making positive changes in her community.

David Kelsey is an advocate and leader for the Deaf community in Nevada. He was recently appointed president of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy Resource Center (DHHARC). He is also an organizer for the Henderson/Las Vegas ASL Social Nights.

In addition, David works as an American Sign Language (ASL) instructor at Nevada State College (NSC) and is an active advisor for NSC’s ASL Club. He is dedicated to his students and offers workshops that encourage students to further develop their signing skills and to get involved in the Deaf community in Las Vegas. David has been described as a highly respected teacher, volunteer and leader within the Deaf community in Las Vegas.
