For many years, Noble Powers has been proactive in advocating for the equal rights of individuals who are deaf-blind in the State of Tennessee. Being deaf-blind himself, he has attained knowledge on the needs required to gain accessibility and equality throughout the state and has educated others on these important matters.
When Noble Powers learned that he was losing his sight due to Usher Syndrome, he prepared himself by learning Braille via correspondence courses. He has since become a role model and teacher in helping individuals who are deaf-blind learn to read Braille. Noble was instrumental in establishing the Tennessee Organization of the Deaf-Blind in Chattanooga where he currently, at the age of 85, serves as the first President of this newly established chapter.
Noble's interest lies in learning how technology can improve the lives of individuals who are deaf-blind. He is familiar with the variety of companies and organizations that manufacture Braille telecommunications devices and takes the time to test the devices and evaluate which are the most efficient and affordable for the end user. He is always on the look-out for new products to evaluate and recommend!
Noble has been described by his peers as a kind, patient, and caring person. His persistence and dedication to helping others understand the needs of individuals who are deaf-blind is admirable.
