Susan's personal experience in losing her hearing has motivated her to become an educator and advocate for individuals with hearing loss. Before she lost her hearing, Susan was a professional musician who performed with a number of symphonies, including the Mexico City Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony. When she lost her hearing, her love for music and performing with the symphonies left a void in her life. Susan quickly learned more about her hearing loss and embraced it, taking charge of her life once again.
Through her personal experience and growth, Susan helps to guide others in embracing their hearing loss. She is always helpful in sharing insight and information about the tools available to individuals with hearing loss that allow them to get back to living a full life again. Susan also advocates on a variety of accessibility issues in her community, so that she and others with hearing loss have access to what others can hear. Through educating and empowering, she ensures that individuals understand and know their rights.
While her hearing loss changed her life, she certainly has not slowed down. Susan engages in many local activities in the Helena area. She volunteers her time to the Helena Kennel Club and the Spay and Neuter Clinic and is also a member of the Musher's Association and the local Helena Hiker's Club. This year, Susan participated in her first sled race as a dog musher – solo!
We are pleased to share Susan's remarkable triumphs and recognize her for the education and work she has done for individuals with hearing loss in her community.
