Hamilton Relay is pleased to award the 2021 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the State of California to Mary DeHaas of Santee, California.
May is involved with several community groups for brain injury survivors and is an advocate for aphasia awareness. As a stroke survivor herself, she offers her time and experience in order to provide helpful resources and advice to others in the community.
Mary is an active member and current secretary of the Comebackers Neuro Club where she manages record-keeping functions of the club as well as plans events and calls members on their birthday. She is also a member of the Alvarado Aphasia Group and brings new ideas and resources to stroke survivors and individuals with communication difficulties. In addition, she volunteers for the Acquired Brain Injury Class, Art for All and the Alvarado Hospital.
According to her peers, Mary has a “huge heart and generous spirit.” We commend Mary for her dedication to advocacy and helping others and are proud to present the Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the state of California.
